Die Frequenz des D\u00e4mpfers ist auf eine bestimmte Strukturfrequenz abgestimmt, so dass der D\u00e4mpfer bei Erregung dieser Frequenz au\u00dfer Phase mit der Strukturbewegung schwingt. Die Energie wird durch die Tr\u00e4gheitskraft des D\u00e4mpfers, die auf die Struktur wirkt, abgeleitet. Richtig abgestimmt, ersetzen TMDs die hohe Spitze bei der Resonanzfrequenz der Struktur durch zwei 2 viel kleinere Spitzen.
